Easy Spiced Mulled Wine Recipe

The perfect festive drink for all wine lovers! 

This spiced infused drink is very traditional in my country during Christmas time.

There are many different variations and we usually add one secret ingredient – our domestic rum and lot of sugar.

I  make a lighter option of this warming drink and I  have an alcohol-free version for you as well. 

Easy Spiced Mulled Wine

Servings: 4

 

Ingredients

  • 700 ml red wine of your choice or grape juice for alcohol-free version.* 
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks. 
  • 4 cloves. 
  • 1 star anise. 
  • ½ orange peel. 
  • 4 tbsp coconut sugar (not necessary if using juice).

 

Method

  1. Place your wine/juice in a saucepan. Add your spices and place over low heat.
  2. Gently simmer for 20-25 minutes. Don’t let the wine bring to the boil as you don’t want to boil off all the alcohol!
  3. Strain through the sieve and adjust the sweetness. 
  4. Serve warm in a cup and top with favourite garnishes like slice of orange or sultanas.

 

Tip:  you can swap 1/3 of juice for water if you prefer less sweet flavour.
